From Burnout to Balance: Building a Business that Honors God and Me

To the eye, burnout doesn’t always look like falling apart. Sometimes, it’s going through the motions in a job that looks good on paper—but feels like it’s slowly draining the life out of you.

I’ve always had a heart for service. I love helping others, supporting vision, and being the one behind the scenes making things happen. But somewhere along the way, my 9–5 became the very thing pulling me away from that joy. I wasn’t burnt out from serving people—I was burnt out from systems, expectations, and a culture that didn’t honor my gifts or my limits.

That’s when ServeAssist was born—not just as a business, but as a lifestyle. It was time to walk in what I was meant to be doing, exercise my God-given purpose, and be happy.

For seven years, I was stuck in a role that demanded more than it poured back into me. I trained teams, created processes, managed projects, and consistently rose to the top. But I’d finish work feeling drained, uninspired, and misaligned. I knew I was called to support others—but not in the capacity of sales. I didn’t want to resent work. I just needed it to feel meaningful again.

Then came the wake-up call—a moment of clarity and validation: You have everything you need at your fingertips. My circle affirmed it. They spoke life into who I am and what I already do. And most importantly, it became clear that God didn’t call me to burn out in the name of helping others. I realized I was trying to force a role to fit my calling… while also feeling stuck because, let’s be honest—bills were still billing.

I had to make a decision. I had a lot of praying to do.

And yes—transparently speaking—I did not want to start another business. There was fear, doubt, and so many “what ifs.” But God comforted me and reassured me that this time would be different.

So much so, that my 9–5 sales role was eliminated—and instead of letting me go, the company created a support-based position just for me. That gave me the time and, more importantly, the energy to build a business where God is at the center, and I’m not left on the sidelines of my own life.

I designed ServeAssist to fit me, not the other way around. There’s no corporate promotion ladder to climb. Instead, I’ve built a life with clear hours, protected time with my son, and weekly rest. My clients align with my mission and beliefs—ministry leaders, entrepreneurs, and busy individuals who value excellence and grace.

I set expectations. I say no when I need to. And I hold to those boundaries lovingly and consistently.

Inviting God in and creating space for Him to dwell has truly become the testimony of Psalm 37:4—
“Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.”

I’m not perfect. I’m learning and building daily. But I honor the Lord with every proposal, every client, and yes—every dollar that I make.

If you're running on fumes, know this:

God didn’t call you to hustle harder—He called you to walk with Him.
Building a business with boundaries, faith, and balance isn’t easy, but it’s possible. You don’t have to choose between purpose and peace.

You can have both.
